Beta Testing - User Guide

Welcome to Fresh KDS!

You're one of the first users of our completely rebuilt platform, and we're super excited to have you (and your feedback).

Our team is committed to building tools that help you improve what matters most - customer experience, food, and the bottom line. The only way we can do that is with people like you lending a helping hand. So thank you. We are sincerely grateful.

Enough of the sappy stuff - let's get going!

Before you begin: 

  • Obtain a tablet to function as your Fresh KDS screen. See the FAQs for device requirements (Before You Buy>Devices).
  • Ensure you have a strong and stable WiFi connection.

    Note - Fresh KDS will not work if you are using your Square device as a hotspot.

Step 1: Create a Fresh KDS Account

  1. Open and click Sign Up in the top right corner.
  2. Enter your information on the following page and click Register.
  3. Confirm your account by opening the welcome message sent to the email address you used to sign up, and clicking the confirmation button. You will be redirected back to the Fresh KDS web portal to complete account setup.
  4. Enter your first location’s information (if you have multiple locations, don’t worry, you’ll be able to add additional locations once your account is setup) and click Next.
  5. Choose a subscription plan, select your POS system, and click Next.
  6. Enter payment information ( NOTE: for the beta testing period, a valid debit or credit card is NOT required). You can enter your debit/credit card, or use the following information:
         Card Number: 4111-1111-1111-1111
         CVC: 123
         Month: January
         Year: 2019
    Then click Submit.
  7. Congrats! You have now successfully completed the registration for Fresh KDS.

Step 2: Setup the Fresh KDS App

  1. Ensure that your tablet is connected to the same WiFi network as your Square system.
  2. If you are using Fresh KDS on an iPad, open Safari and download the app from THIS DOWNLOAD LINK (note: the app is not yet available in the iOS App Store). Password: 46542002.
  3. If you're using Fresh KDS on an Android tablet, open Chrome and download the app from THIS DOWNLOAD LINK (note: the app is not yet available in Google Play). Password: 46542002.
  4. Click Download Application.
  5. Once the application downloads, you will need to allow your device to trust the developer by following these steps:
         iOS: Settings > General > Device Management > tap on the developer's profile, and tap on Trust.
         Android: depending on the device and version, in Security or in Applications, check the box "Unknown sources".
  6. Open the Fresh KDS app, log in using your account credentials, follow the prompts and give the screen a name.

Step 3: Configure Fresh KDS as a Printer Station in Square

  1. Ensure that your Fresh KDS tablet is connected to the same WiFi network as your Square system.
  2. In the Square POS app or Register open the Menu and navigate to Settings > Printers.
  3. Select Create Printer Station.
  4. Enter a name for each Fresh KDS screen.
  5. Tap No Printer Selected.
  6. Select your Fresh KDS screen from the list of available printers.
  7. Tap Print Test to confirm the Fresh KDS screen is successfully connected to Square
  8. Turn on Order Tickets and select the categories to send to the Fresh KDS screen.
  9. Tap Save to complete the printer station setup.

    Note: You must configure each Fresh KDS screen as a printer station on every Square device that sends orders to the kitchen.

Step 4: Place Your Fresh KDS Tablet in the Kitchen

  1. Set your Fresh KDS device in your kitchen wherever it works best for your team.
  2. Some of our customers place a device right on a prep station. Others find that mounting on the wall nearby with a waterproof casing is the best option.
  3. We're compiling a list of recommended mounting options which will soon be available here.

Step 5: Train Your Staff

  1. Show your staff how to clear orders (simply tap an order to clear it - or tap an individual order item to clear just that item).
  2. Show your staff how to recall orders (it's easy - just tap the recall button at the top of the screen).

Step 6: Profit!
